What difficulties will the Rugby World Cup Final Qualifier face in 2023?

We take a look at what it would mean for Pool C as four teams compete in Dubai for the 20th and final ticket to France in 2023. In December 2020, the draw for Rugby World Cup 2023 was made, and Wales, Australia, and Fiji took up three of the five spots in Pool C. Those three teams qualified on their thanks to third-place pool finishes or better at the previous tournament in Japan. The other two spots were given to Europe 1 and the winner of the Final Qualifier.

By finishing at the top of the combined standings for the Rugby Europe Championship in 2021 and 2022, Georgia became the 15th team to qualify for the main competition in France in March of this year.

The Final Qualification Tournament, which will take place in Dubai between November 6 and 18, will determine who will fill the remaining one spot after the Lelos become the Europe 1 qualifier.

Along with Wales, Australia, Fiji, and Georgia, four teams from the United States, Portugal, Kenya, and Hong Kong are in the running to participate in what appears to be a highly competitive pool.

In the World Rugby Men’s Rankings powered by Capgemini, Wales is seventh on 81.28, Australia is ninth on 80.65, Fiji is 12th on 75.08, and Georgia is 13th on 74.51, covering the four confirmed participants in Pool C.

Since each team is capable of defeating the other on their day, it seems impossible to predict which of the teams will finish in the top two and advance to the knockout stages at this point.

Only Wales and Australia, winners of the 1991 and 1999 Rugby World Cups, have made it this far in the semifinals.

Fiji has only made it to the quarterfinals, but they have a history of upsets, as Wales discovered to their cost at the 2007 tournament in France.

Even though Georgia has only participated in five tournaments and has never advanced beyond the pool stage, their increased exposure to matches against some of the more established nations over the past four Rugby World Cup cycles has only served to increase their competitiveness.

Pool C permutations

If you finish in the top three pools at Rugby World Cup 2023, you automatically qualify for the next tournament, which is probably the goal of the Final Qualifier.

Kenya and Hong Kong have never competed at the Rugby World Cup because they have never stepped foot on the world’s largest sporting event.

It would be extremely unusual for the United States to not reach France. They have only failed to qualify for a Rugby World Cup once before, in 1995.

The Eagles have faced Australia eight times, including three times during the Rugby World Cup (1987, 1999, and 2011), which could be their opponents on October 1.

Despite playing Georgia and Wales a total of 13 times, the USA has never met them at a Rugby World Cup.

The last time the Lelos played the Eagles, they won 21-20 in Tbilisi in 2017. The two teams have a record of three wins each, but Wales has lost all seven of their games against them.

Portugal, on the other hand, is hoping to participate in their second Rugby World Cup after competing at the first one, which France hosted.

The draw for RWC 2023 ensures that Os Lobos will face a new opponent at this level, as they last played against New Zealand, Scotland, Italy, and Romania in 2007.

Having said that, ever since Portugal was promoted to the second-tier competition in 2019, Georgia has faced them in the Rugby Europe Championship every year.

Os Lobos have managed three draws over those 19 years, the most recent occurring in February 2022 when they defeated the Lelos 25-25 in Tbilisi. Portugal has failed to defeat Georgia in their 17 previous matches.

That result brought an end to Georgia’s 20-game winning streak in the Rugby Europe Championship and solidified Portugal’s growing reputation under Patrice Lagisquet as head coach.

Portugal will look to their match against Georgia on September 23 in Toulouse as their best chance of winning if they qualify.

Rugby World Cup 2023 fans can buy Australia Vs Fiji Tickets from our website.

Portugal has lost both of their previous matches against Fiji, but neither of those defeats would be considered a cricket score.

Portugal has never played Australia, and Wales defeated Portugal 102-11 in their only meeting in 1994. But that was during the amateur era, so it has nothing to do with what might happen in a rematch on September 16 in Nice.

The guessing game will be over on November 18, when the 20th and final team competing in RWC 2023 will be announced.

Final Qualifier Pool C fixtures:

Saturday 16 September, v Wales, Nice
Saturday 23 September, v Georgia, Toulouse
Sunday 1 October, v Australia, Saint-Étienne
Sunday 8 October, v Fiji, Toulouse

After drawing with the USA in a crucial match in Dubai with the final kick, Portugal has qualified for the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France.

With a 16-16 victory in the final match of the Final Qualification Tournament in Dubai, Portugal secured their spot.

They become the final team to qualify for France 2023 after finishing first in the final qualifier on a points difference. Portugal will participate in the Rugby World Cup for the second time since 2007 and will be in Pool C with Australia, Wales, Fiji, and Georgia. This means that the USA, which will host the tournament in 2031, will not participate for the first time since 1995.

This means that Portugal will join Wales, Australia, Fiji, and Georgia in Pool C at the Rugby World Cup in 2023.

“It’s hard to explain, it’s one of the best feelings in the world,” Portugal captain Tomás Appleton said. “For the rugby community this is amazing, we’ve been missing [from Rugby World Cup] for quite some time and we need a new generation to inspire the kids.”

Earlier on Friday, Hong Kong mounted a second-half comeback to beat Kenya 22-18 and claim third place in the standings.

For Mitchell, opening the pool beyond the three-player limit is key although he stressed it wouldn’t be a free for all.

“I also think maybe they need to broaden that Giteau Law just a little bit,” Mitchell added.

“When I say open it up, it’s not for 20 players by any means, it might just be four or five.

“We need to go over here and be at our competitive best, and whatever Dave Rennie Wallabies coach thinks that squad looks like, give him the chance to pick it.

“You’re not going to pick 20 players. By opening it up, you still only pick five players, but having the allowance and the ability for Dave Rennie to do that is paramount.

“It’s his job. He’s based on his results as well, Rennie and the coaching staff, so why would he not want to go to a World Cup with the best team available to him?

“Our coaches have been picked from overseas so why can’t our players be? I think, personally, open it up, but by saying that I don’t mean, 10, 15, 20 players Maybe a handful.”

England Rugby World Cup: Ben Young most-capped men’s player

England Rugby World Cup: Ben Youngs became England’s most-capped men’s player when he came off the bench in England’s 23-19 Six Nations conquest over Wales. The Leicester Tigers scrum-half replaced Harry Randall in the 61st minute of the third-round competition at Twickenham and in doing so won his 115th England cap to pass the long-standing record of Jason Leonard, the former Test leg and 2003 Rugby World Cup champion who played his last Test in 2004.

Ben Young

Youngs made his England entrance against Scotland at Murray field during the 2010 championship and won his 100th cap against Italy in 2020, marking that time with two tries. He didn’t have quite such an impact on this match against Wales but he did thrill the ball out to mark the end of the game after England achieved to thwart a late Wales flow to hold on for the win.

The 32-year-old, who also won two caps for the British & Irish Lions on their 2013 trip to Australia, has played in three Rugby World Cups, 2011, 2015, and 2019, and is predictable to go to a fourth next year given that he has been a mainstay in the lateral under Eddie Jones. So, he should extend his caps tally meaningfully over the next 18 months.

Youngs, whose dad Nick and brother Tom have also signified England, is only the second man to pass 100 caps for England after Leonard but there are numerous centurions in the women’s game. Rochelle Clark is the most-capped England player of all time, playing in 137 Tests for the Red Designs. Sarah Hunter has 130 caps – with her tally set to grow in the future Women’s Six Nations. While Katy Daley-Mclean (116) and Tamara Taylor (115) have also passed the three-figure landmark.

Will Greenwood: Doubts around Eddie Jones leading England Rugby World Cup have gone

England came spinal from a 10-3 deficit in the first half of the final Test in Australia to record a 21-17 victory in Sydney and clinch the series 2-1; Eddie Jones has now led England to two series conquests in Australia after the outfit’s triumph back in 2016

Will Greenwood trusts any doubts about whether Eddie Jones should lead England Rugby World Cup to next year’s Rugby WC have been removed after the side’s 2-1 series win in Australia. England lost the series opener 30-28 before drumming back in Brisbane. The 25-17 second-Test win meant it was all on the line when Jones’ outfit inwards in Sydney on Saturday.

At the Sydney Cricket Ground, England ongoing slowly and went 10-3 down. They claimed an 11-10 lead just before half-time and in the second half, Marcus Smith’s extraordinary solo try helped to set them additional on their way. Australia hit back through Folau Fainga’a but England held firm to best the 21-17 victory, which closed a second series win in Australia.

With the positive series outcome, Greenwood trusts the time for questions about whether Jones should or should not lead England to next year’s Rugby World Cup is over. If it had gone 3-0 then it was six overthrows out of seven, or seven on the trot if you total the Barbarians game, then there would have been a huge number of queries, Greenwood noted. Once they won the second Test that was put to the divan. This [a third Test win] has put the mallet, nail, and tongs, done, shut it, and no more chats about it.  The one thing I hope is that Jones keeps the same coaching staff through to get that level of constancy, the former England international sustained.

There’s been fairly a high turnover rate, a churn with his assistant coach, his forward’s coach, and his defensive coaches. For players to get a reliable message and get behind an idea, philosophy, and style of play, I am confident Jones keeps these guys and goes through to the World Cup with them. Jones is known as a head coach who is straight and a straight-talker. In the past, he has been criticized for some of his comments regarding adversaries and sometimes for how he has loomed Test weeks.

However, after England’s victory at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Jones cut a relaxed-looking figure, which prompted the inquiry as to whether he has softened slightly. If he’d completely mellowed, then the strength has given Danny Care until 60 minutes, Greenwood noted.

Will Greenwood

England Rugby World Cup: During the final Test, Jones’ dragged the scrum-half from the field after just 36 minutes on what was his 87th cap and replaced the 35-year-old with his less knowledgeable team-mate, Jack van Poortvliet. To understand how ruthless Jones is in terms of winning, wanting to change impetus and flow, and seeing an o, chance to get Jack van Poortvliet on…you don’t frequently see a scrum-half coming off after 36 minutes, Greenwood said.

He might have relaxed in the interview, and he might not be throwing as many barbs out in the press, but if you dip below his standard of presentation or your style is not suited for that particular game, he’s as ruthless as he’s always been. Care’s revels at the end of the match were muted and it’s not the first time Jones has chosen to hook a player from the field in Australia. It occurred to Luther Burrell after 28 minutes and Teimana Harrison after only 31 notes back in 2016.

England’s team for this series after a significant period out of the international fray

Care had returned to England’s team for this series after a significant period out of the international fray. Before the first Test, he’d made his last cap in November 2018. Does Greenwood reason the scrum-half’s Test career is now over? He’ll be cleaned to have come off in the primary half. Go back, play well at Quins and keep jutting your hat in the ring… that’s all you can do.

Former England Rugby World Cup captain Dylan Hartley felt that the call from Jones was an arresting one and explained more his perspective about Jones’ possible thinking.

For all of us viewing, being pulled off at half-time is not nice and it’s not easy, Hartley said. That’s the time to do it, give Jack van Poortvliet five notes to get into the game and get a feel for the game. If you wait until half-time, its strength take him five or ten minutes to get into the game [after]. It’s a bold thing, not many coaches manage to do it and I fairly like it. It’s bold.

You wanted to alter tact. He gets all this criticism but was that a point in the game that altered tact? Did it lead to small greater things down the way? I like it. It’s bold organization.

Each England rugby league shirt since the last home World Cup

England has free their new kit for the upcoming World Cup, with the white and blue design splitting view. Manufactured by OXEN, the kit will be worn by the men’s, women’s, and wheelchair sides later this year. We’ve had a look at all the England shirts hurled since the last home World Cup back in 2013. 2022 World Cup shirt

The newest of the lot, proclaimed this July, to take England to the World Cup. England shirts have regularly been white with red, so the blue came as quite a tremor to some. However, white and blue are frequently used as the colors of the England national team in other sports, notably football.

2022 Tonga tribute

It’s not the primary new-look England Rugby World Cup shirt of the year. For the mid-season international against Combined Nations All Stars, England reinforced the Tonga Tsunami, Relief Fund. A special England kit was worn, featuring tribal patterns on the covers, for the one-off match.

The All-Stars played in a Tonga compliment kit and £10 of each sale of both jerseys went to the fund, to support the wounded of the tsunami. The wheelchair lateral wore it in their test matches against France. While the women played against France and Wales tiring the kit.

2021 original World Cup shirt

This may well become something of a gatherer’s item in the future. An England World Cup shirt that never saw a World Cup. It was hurled back in June 2021 as OXEN’s first design as a supplier of the England team. Unfortunately, the epidemic put paid to the tournament and it was postponed a year. They did wear the kit against Combined Nations All-Stars in 2021, though of sequence. It didn’t have the World Cup badge.

The form they wore against France last October did feature the World Cup badge though. The women and wheelchair sides also wore their Rugby World Cup version in their tests with France. England Knights wore a non-World Cup form against Jamaica.

2019 Rugby League Nines

There were no full internationals in 2019 due to the Great Britain tour. But England still contained in the Rugby League World Cup 9s. That meant that a shirt was free for the men and women to play in during the competition in Australia. It proved to be the final official shirt that Hummel released, as there were no full internationals in 2020 and by 2021. The RFL had moved to another supplier.

2018 Remembrance Day

The last series that England played was at home against New Zealand, closely four years ago. The third test at Elland Road marked 100 years since the end of the First World War. So England wore a special commemorative jersey enclosed in poppies. It featured a British Legion badge and a Thank You 1918-2018 badge on the covers.

Unfortunately, England was thumped 34-0.

2018 Hummel

The original form of the above shirt was at least worn in the wins in the series – as England beat New Zealand at Hull and Anfield. They also beat France at Leigh Sports Village. The big outing for this kit though, backed by Dacia and manufactured by Hummel, was in Denver, USA. England beat New Zealand 36-18 at the Mile High Stadium in a historic test match across the pond in front of 19,320. This was the first shirt made as part of the RFL’s four-year company with Hummel.

2016 Four Nations

The World Cup kit was a slight difference from the kit worn for the 2016 Four Nations the previous year. A rebrand for England Rugby World Cup League meant a new logo was in a home for 2017. While the attendance of the World Cup logo for the tournament meant the BLK branding was enthused from left to center. In essence, it was the same kit – just with a few minor details altered; and so really. The 2016/17 kit was the most worn.

2015 Wall of White

What proved to be the final shirt containing long-term sponsors was Gillette. The Wall of White shirt was used for the autumn tests against New Zealand and France. It was the first to be made by BLK, following the move away from ISC. It also featured Kingstone Press marking on the sleeves.

2013/14 The last home World Cup

The England rugby world cup league shirt worn at the last World Cup was also reserved for the 2014 Four Nations. Manufactured by ISC, it had the Gillette marking on the front, which had become synonymous with rugby league internationals. It featured a subtle St George’s irritated on the chest.

Toby Flood believes that England fans should give Marcus Smith room to improve his game

Toby Flood asks England fans to give Marcus Smith space to improve the game ahead of RWC

Toby Flood believes that England fans should give Marcus Smith room to improve his game in the run-up to the Rugby World Cup2023 in France. Despite Owen Farrell’s return to fitness, the former England fly-half stated Marcus Smith would be his first choice ten in an interview with The Rugby Paper Podcast. As he pondered on Smith’s debut stint in international football, Flood observed, “Smith has been fantastic.” Flood stated on the podcast: On a side note, there’s some absurd stuff being published about how essential he is to us. He is significant. He has, however, played a few games.

People are predicting that if Smith does not perform well, the team will not win the Rugby World Cup. Let’s give this guy a little room to grow into an international player. In the atmosphere he has known since he was 18, he has been remarkable for Quins. He’s arrived at a familiar location.

Rugby World Cup 2023

At the international level, however, he is still learning the ropes. There will be ups and downs, but he will give it his all. Toby Flood, Brendan Gallagher, Nick Cain, and presenter Oliver Little debate England’s starting XV at the Rugby World Cup 2023 in the newest episode of The Rugby Paper Podcast.

Smith should be England’s first-choice fly-half, according to all four members of the panel. Manu Tuilagi should be England’s first choice inside the centre, according to the experts. Toby Flood said: 12 – He’s a phenomenon, whether you’ve played with him or against him. I’d put him in at twelve o’clock.

Tuilagi’s bad luck with injuries, on the other hand, means England must prepare for his absence. If the Sales centre was unavailable for selection, the panel debated who they would choose as a substitute for Manu Tuilagi at the inside centre.

the former England fly-half stated Marcus Smith would be his first choice

In Tuilagi’s absence, Nick Cain believes Gloucester’s Mark Atkinson should play at 12. The Rugby Paper columnist, on the other hand, believes that England should consider Saracens’ Alex Lozowski and Leicester Tigers’ Guy Porter as possible Tuilagi replacements.

He continued, “The talent that England hasn’t grasped is (Paolo) Odugwa at Wasps.” He is physically comparable to Manu. Cain believes he is more suited to the midfield despite lately playing on the flank for Wasps.

He doesn’t appear to be a good fit for me. At twelve, he has the ability to make an impact beyond 30 yards. Take a peek at this person, at the very least. If I were Italy, I’d call this guy once a week.

Eddie Jones appears to be destined to remain England's head coach until after the Rugby World Cup 2023

England RWC 2023 ‘Eddie may stay and they may want him’

Eddie Jones could keep his job as England’s head coach if he wins the Rugby World Cup in France in 2023, according to Dean Richards, who does not believe that a successor must be English. Rugby Fans can buy RWC 2023 Tickets from our website.

Eddie Jones appears to be destined to remain England’s head coach until after the Rugby World Cup 2023

“We believe we’ve got such a wealth of English coaches in the game,” Bill Sweeney, the Rugby Football Union’s chief executive, has declared. We should be creating English coaches and an English style of play as a great rugby nation. As far as I’m concerned, that should be long-term, therefore having an English set-up would be preferable.”

Richards, who has 48 England caps and unequaled Premiership experience as a director of rugby, has a different perspective and feels that an English victory at the Rugby World Cup will erase the memories of Jones’ two consecutive bad Six Nations finishes.

“Ultimately, the road to the RWC 2023 quarter- and semi-finals (for England) appears quite clear at the moment, and if you are within two matches of winning a Rugby World Cup, everything will be forgotten,” he stated. Eddie might decide to stay, and they might want him to.”

Richards wants the option to be open to all applicants if Sweeney and the panel hearing Jones’ case decide he should step down after the RWC in France. He went on to say, “It has to be the best suitable coach to win us a Rugby World Cup as simple as that.” “It doesn’t have to be English, but they must have a basic grasp of the English culture and mindset in order to get the most out of the English” (players).

It provides a clear path to understanding what it takes to become a global player. There are several applicants, many of them are English speakers, as well as some foreigners. I don’t believe they must have worked on a global scale, but there must be an understanding of their skills and whether they meet the requirements you’ve set.

It can be tough to judge a person’s ability simply by observing them work alongside an international head coach at times. Because rugby is unlike any other sport, the advantages you earn from being a director of rugby or a head coach in the Premiership are enormous.

However, because the Premiership and international levels are so different, you must determine whether the talents and flaws you develop in the Premiership will be useful at the international level. It’s about the parameters they set and if they believe there are those who would fit the description who have already worked in international rugby and those who haven’t.

Danny Care offers his opinion on who should be England’s next head coach

Eddie Jones appears to be destined to remain England's head coach until after the Rugby World Cup 2023
Eddie Jones appears to be destined to remain England’s head coach until after the Rugby World Cup 2023

Naturally, there has been much speculation about who might succeed Jones, with Borthwick, Andy Farrell. Rob Baxter, Richard Cockerill, and Alex Sanderson are among the candidates. The RFU has stated its preference for an English head coach, with Borthwick. Andy Farrell, Rob Baxter, Richard Cockerill, and Alex Sanderson are among the candidates.

Borthwick appears to be the front candidate as a result of his excellent work with Leicester Tigers. Despite the fact that he lacks experience, as Care pointed out on the BBC Rugby Union Weekly podcast.

Danny Care is a candidate for the place of England’s next head coach

It’s difficult to say because Steve Borthwick has the most experience out of those people. No, he doesn’t, Care stated emphatically.

I’d say Andy Farrell has been training lengthier than Steve Borthwick. As has Richard Cockerill, Rob Baxter has been coaching for a lot longer, and I’d say Alex Sanderson coached Steve Borthwick at Saracens.

So Steve Borthwick is arguably the least experienced of the English contender. But I believe he is the only one who has been in the [England] camp and has jammed a lot in. He’s won everything as a player, both nationally and as a club player. And I believe everyone who knows Steve Borthwick understands the level of detail that would go into that England team.

I just think the head coach becomes a lot of courtesy, but the other assistant coaches are just as essential. They must all be capable of challenging the head coach, with the head coach willing to be challenged for the greater good.

IRFU will certainly want to keep him beyond the Rugby World Cup 2023
IRFU will certainly want to keep him beyond the Rugby World Cup 2023

In English rugby, there is no shortage of qualified coaches

Andy Farrell has done an excellent job as Ireland’s coach in recent years, and he also spent four years as England’s defensive coach. So the IRFU will certainly want to keep him beyond the Rugby World Cup 2023.

Borthwick, Baxter, and Sanderson are all currently committed to their clubs, while Cockerill is England’s forward’s coach. Albeit for only about six months. Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall, who has managed the North London club to three Heineken Champions Cup championships, might be another choice. However, the County Down man could be persuaded to return to Ireland.

There is still a lot of water under the bridge until the RFU names the next England head coach, but it does not appear likely that it will be someone who has never coached in England.

Spain has been engaged in controversy for the second consecutive Rugby World Cup qualifying match

Spain’s place in Rugby World Cup 2023 in doubt

However, World Rugby announced on Monday that it will convene an independent judicial committee to investigate a possible breach of Regulation 8 concerning a player’s eligibility for internationals by Spain during Rugby World Cup qualifying.

“World Rugby has been made aware of a potential breach involving one member of the Spanish national men’s senior team,” the statement added. “After conducting preliminary investigations, the international federation considers that a formal independent assessment is necessary.” Throughout the early inquiries, the Spanish Rugby Union has been completely accommodating.”

Gavin van der Berg, a South African-born front-rower, is said to be the subject of the investigation. He made his debut in the Rugby Europe Championship, which also served as Rugby World Cup qualifying, on Dec. 18, when Spain defeated the Netherlands 52-7 in Amsterdam. Van der Berg came on in the second half and scored a try.

Van der Berg arrived in Spain in 2018 and had to stay for three years in order to qualify for residence before making his debut on Dec. 18. But, according to reports, he returned to South Africa for four months in 2019 and visited again in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic.

Spain could lose at least the 10 competition points it won against the Netherlands if it is found guilty of violating Regulation 8. It would fall from second to fourth place in European qualifying, and it would be eliminated from the Rugby World Cup. Romania, on the other hand, might finish second and qualify for the world repechage tournament in November, while Portugal could finish third and qualify for the world repechage tournament in November.

Spain has been engaged in controversy for the second consecutive Rugby World Cup qualifying match. Spain, Romania, and Belgium were fined in 2018 for fielding ineligible players, yet Russia qualified for the 2019 World Cup in Japan.

At the Rugby World Cup 2023, all four of those teams will be in the same half of the draw

Early draw hurts Rugby World Cup 2023

The draw for the Rugby World Cup 2023 took place on December 14, 2020, in Paris. Exactly 1,000 days before the tournament’s first match on September 8, 2023. Between hosts France and the All Blacks. Rugby Fans can buy RWC 2023 Tickets from our website.

The 12 automatic qualifiers were seeded based on their World Rugby Rankings as of January 1, 2020, with the Springboks. All Blacks, England, and Wales in band one, Ireland, Australia, France, and Japan in band two, and Scotland, Argentina, Fiji, and Italy in band three.

After the draw and the 2022 Six Nations, the foolishness of having the draw almost three years before the tournament – based on rankings from 11 months earlier – was painfully highlighted.

The Springboks, All Blacks, England, and Wales were the top-four ranked teams on January 1, 2020. (The RWC 2019 semi-finalists). Wales had dropped from fourth to ninth place by 14 December 2020. While France had risen from seventh to fourth place.

Six Nations winners France

The Springboks, newly crowned Six Nations winners France. The All Blacks and Ireland were the top-four ranked teams on March 21, 2022. At the Rugby World Cup 2023. All four of those teams will be in the same half of the draw, meaning two of them will not advance past the quarterfinals. While lower-ranked teams in the other half of the draw. Such as ninth-placed Wales, may.

World Rugby has never explained why the draw must take place in the first year of a Rugby World Cup cycle, although it is likely to benefit the organizers by allowing tickets to go on sale earlier. This, however, comes at the expense of the tournament’s credibility.

The goal of employing a seeding system for a tournament is to ensure that the top four teams advance to the semi-finals. And the top two teams compete in the final. Obviously, results do not always match seedings, but at the very least, you avoid a situation in which the best two teams meet in the quarter-finals, while a plainly weaker team from the other side of the draw has an easy path to the final.

When it comes to World Cup draws, World Rugby can learn from FIFA

The 2022 Fifa World Cup draw will take place in Doha on 1 April 2022, 235 days before the opening match on November 21. Yet, that is enough time for the organizers of the world’s largest sporting event to complete their tasks. As well as for spectators to purchase tickets and make travel arrangements to Qatar.

After the November Tests, World Rugby could have held the draw for the RWC 2023 in December of last year. Yes, some nations’ form may have fluctuated between then and the start of the World Cup nine months later. But it was significantly less than it had been during the previous three years.

Hopefully, World Rugby will learn how badly it timed the Rugby World Cup 2023 draw and avoid repetition for the Rugby World Cup 2027 in Australia.

RFU aims to name an English successor to Jones before Rugby World Cup 2023

Bill Sweeney, the RFU’s president, stated that he would want to choose an English man to succeed Eddie Jones as head coach. Sweeney has lent his support to Jones, who is under fire after a string of poor Six Nations performances. Jones has a contract with the RFU that runs through the end of the Rugby World Cup in 2023.

Sweeney told British reporters on Saturday, “We believe we have such a plethora of English coaches in the game.” “We should be creating English coaches and an English style of play as a great rugby nation.” As far as I’m concerned, that should be long-term, so I’d prefer an English setup.”

Jones, who took over as England’s head coach in 2016 and was the first foreigner to do so, has led the team to three Six Nations titles and a Rugby World Cup runner-up performance in Japan in 2019.

RFU

The RFU, according to Sweeney, has an “advanced succession plan” in place. “We have a war room with every English coach you can think of – both locally and globally,” Sweeney added.

The RFU’s director of performance rugby, Conor O’Shea, stated that the successor will be named before the summer of 2023. “That’s a topic for discussion, whether it’s incorporating them into the curriculum or having a helicopter view. We’d like to believe we’ll be appointing them in the years leading up to 2023 “O’Shea went on to say.

Steve Borthwick, Rob Baxter, and Richard Cockerill have also been connected to the England head coach position in the British media. (Manasi Pathak in Bengaluru contributed reporting; Christopher Cushing edited the piece).
