Sonny Williams retired: His five most memorable all black games

Sonny Bill Williams has called for time in his rugby career to concentrate on his return to boxing.

After switching codes from rugby league in 2008. Williams represented New Zealand at three Rugby World Cups and lifted the Webb Ellis Cup in 2011 and 2015. He played for his country on the World Rugby Sevens Series HSBC at the Olympic Games in Rio. Rugby World Cup fans can buy Rugby World Cup tickets from xchange tickets at massive discount prices.

All Blacks jersey and watched his most memorable Rugby World Cup five games.

England 16-26 New Zealand, 6 November 2010, Twickenham

Williams played in Sydney against Toulon against Australia. But he is expected to play the entire Test match with All Blacks and arrive at Twickenham 17 months later. On the field, he became the first player in nearly 90 years to play for New Zealand vs England Rugby.

On top of that, All Blacks fans had to wait for a little over 16 minutes to understand that Williams could add to the team when he drew two disposals in midfield and provided a deft offload for Jerome Kaino’s support. Kaino again transferred the ball to Hosie Gale and New Zealand scored their first try of the match.

It was a trick that Williams almost repeated in the second half. When he ignored the attention of Mike Tindall and Sant’Anteen Happe, but the All Blacks were not available. New Zealand won the match by 10 points. And next week Williams named as the player of the match as Scotland beat their opponents 49-3 at Murrayfield.

NEW ZEALAND 8-7 FRANCE, 23 OCTOBER, 2011, EDEN PARK

Williams started the opening match of Rugby World Cup 2011, against Tonga in Auckland. But mainly used off the substitutes’ bench as the tournament progressed. That was the role he would once again fulfill when the All Blacks returned to Eden Park to contest the final against France.

New Zealand beat Les Bleus 37-17 in the pool stage, with Williams scoring the team’s fifth and final try. However, the hosts suffered a variety of injuries on the road to the finals. Particularly to fly-half Dan Carter, and therefore the showpiece match would be a way tighter affair. Williams replaced Ma’aonu before the final, but All Blacks victory.

NEW ZEALAND 22-0 AUSTRALIA, 25 AUGUST, 2012, EDEN PARK

With Williams’ first contract with New Zealand RWC coming to an end, the center is starting to have an increasing impact on the team.

He started all three of the June Tests against Ireland, scoring a brace of tries within the third. Because the tourists were beaten 60-0 in Hamilton. Williams, however, saved his best performance for last after a late call-up to the All Blacks side for the primary two Bledisloe Cup matches against Australia.

Williams already committed to playing in Japan, ahead of a return to rugby league, when his All Blacks contract finished. But in back-to-back wins against the Wallabies his form suggested he only settling into the team. At Eden Park on August 25, 2012, Williams made 71 yards, beat four defenders. And provided six offloads in a player-of-the-match performance.

NEW ZEALAND 34-17 AUSTRALIA, 31 OCTOBER, 2015, TWICKENHAM

Williams once again used primarily as a substitute during the All Blacks’ run to the 2015 world rugby cup final. As he started only two of his side’s seven matches.

In the rugby world cup final, he replaced Conrad Smith at half-time and involved almost immediately as his offload found center partner Nonu. Who danced in the Wallabies defense and crossed the goal line from 45 yards out.

Australia rugby world cup 2023 hit back at one point to narrow their deficit to 21-17. But Williams played his part in All Blacks season. He also displayed his willingness to play, throwing an offload from a tackle to Ben Smith as time ran out. Which saw the full-back gleefully kick into touch to end the game.

NEW ZEALAND 40-17 WALES, 1 NOVEMBER, 2019, TOKYO STADIUM

Four years later, Williams made his last appearance within the famous black jersey as he helped New Zealand win bronze in the RWC 2019 final against Wales. In the 42nd minute, fans treated to a classic piece of Williams play as he absorbed tackles from Owen Watkin and Jonathan Davies and will still find the right pop pass to Ryan Crotty on his outside.

The try helped give the All Blacks a 35-10 lead at night and ensured Williams would finish his Test career with another medal around his neck. The center ended his international career after scoring 13 tries in 58 appearances for the All Blacks, of which he won 52.

Gatland gives his take on speculated 2021 Lions tour delay

Warren Gatland has admitted the British and Irish Lions tour to South Africa next year could be rescheduled and delayed until later in 2021 as the sport grapples to recover from the Covid-19 lockdown.

The eight-match, three-Test tour to the home of the Springboks is currently scheduled to take place between July 3 and August 7 next year.

Gatland gives his take on speculated 2021 Lions tour delay

However, with key meetings set to take place shortly to try and work out a global calendar that aligns the northern and southern hemisphere seasons, moving the Lions tour to October 2021 has become a real possibility despite the knock-on effects this would have for the tens of thousands of fans from the four home unions who have already been preparing for a July/August tour.

Jurie Roux, the SA Rugby CEO, confirmed last Monday that a move to host the tour later in the year was being considered. “The development of the pandemic and its varying impact around the world has made for a fluid situation and we have had to be responsive in our planning,” he explained.

“That means we have looked at several contingencies around scheduling. We have those scenarios in place, but the main question now is when it will be safe for international travel and mass gatherings.

“It would be a disappointment if a Lions series had to be played behind closed doors, but that is not a scenario for which we are currently planning.”

Now Lions coach Gatland, whose current Chiefs team opens its Super Rugby Aotearoa schedule away to the Highlanders on Saturday, has admitted that flexibility will be required regarding the 2021 schedule.

Speaking on BBC 5 Live Breakfast, Gatland said: “There is a Word Rugby meeting in a few days and what we are hearing is that there are four or five potential scenarios where it could be a shift for the Six Nations and a shift for the summer tours to October and into November as well and changing the start dates of the season.

Gatland gives his take on speculated 2021 Lions tour delay
Gatland gives his take on speculated 2021 Lions tour delay

“With us with the Lions, it’s just about being a little bit flexible and if we have to go back a month or so, then we can cope with that if it’s the best decision for World Rugby in terms of a global season.

“We have to be cooperative and smart about that. A lot of this has been talked about for a long time and if we can’t have a consensus now when we have got a blank piece of paper to start from then there is never going to be agreement.

“The unfortunate thing is we have a serious global crisis and sometimes that allows us to put things right in certain areas where things can be better for the future. The possibility is the game can look at itself in terms of a global structure. If we don’t do it knows we are never going to do it?”

Unspecified injury brings an end to Paul Willemse’s RWC expectations

The Paul Willemse is returning to Montpellier after injury skippered his World Cup hopes with France Paul Willemse’s hopes of forcing his way into the France World Cup squad have been dashed.

Paul Willemse's

The South African, who secured French citizenship last November and was swiftly propelled into the Six Nations, had been training with Jacques Brunel’s squad as one of their six reservists along with 31 players officially chosen to travel to Japan.

The second row would have been hoping that an injury to a lock would open a route for him to be promoted in time for the finals which start in September.

Instead, he has been struck down by injury himself, leaving Brunel to source a replacement reservist – Toulon’s Romain Taofifenua to help the chosen squad prepare.

A brief French federation statement on Wednesday didn’t specify the injury that forced Willemse out, their media release instead only confirming that the forward would return to his club Montpellier and rehabilitate with them.

“Following medical examinations, Paul Willemse is lost and leaves the training for the Rugby World Cup 2019 to reconcile with his club.”

The previous South African under-20 player, who held his side to World Cup glory in 2012, left the Bulls to play for Grenoble in the Top 14 in summer 2014.

He then made the switch to Montpellier the following summer and while he went on to qualify for France under the three-year internship rule, his Test level ambitions were hampered by French rugby president Bernard Laporte insisting that every player qualifying under residency must also have French citizenship.

This only came through for Willemse last November. He was then called up by Brunel and made his debut in the Six Nations defeat to Wales.

“Once I knew it was possible to play for France it became my 100 percent goal.”

Willemse featured in all five matches in the tournament, starting twice, but he failed to make it into Brunel’s 31 for Japan, leaving him training with the France squad as one of a half-dozen reservists on their standby list.

Dylan Hartley may Need Surgery on Knee Injury Before RWC: Eddie Jones

Dylan Hartley may need surgery on his “grumbly” knee before the Rugby World Cup, with England head coach Eddie Jones left to “wait and see” how his co-captain responds to treatment as he prepares to start the Six Nations tournament without him. Still, this decision is pending. environment

Dylan Hartley
Dylan Hartley may Need Surgery on Knee Injury Before RWC: Eddie Jones

Dylan Hartley 32-year-old will miss England’s inaugural games against defensive Grand Slam champions Ireland and France after misery a knee injury shortly before Christmas, with Jones putting the injury down to the years of wear and tear that Hartley has gone through for club and country.

Rugby Fans Can book their Rugby World Cup Tickets online from the most trusted online tickets marketing place.

Yet the prospect of Hartley missing the entire Six Nations cannot yet be ruled out as the hooker must see how his knee reacts to “passive rehabilitation”, though a pessimistic Jones admitted that he might need surgery at some point in the future if the plan fails to work.

“It’s just a matter of how fit he is,” Jones said of his plans to bring Hartley back into the squad once he is ready. we just have to have a look at him. The first thing is he has to get healthy – he’s not healthy yet. Then he’s got to get fit. We’ll just wait and see. But at this stage, we’d be hopeful that he’ll be back at least for the Wales game.

Dylan Hartley

“He’s 32 and he’s probably played 300 games for Northampton and he’s played 90-odd for England, plus a few for Worcester, so it’s just worn and tear. That’s all it is. He might eventually need an operation to clean it up, but at this stage, they’re doing what they call passive rehab and we’re confident that he should be fit to play in the Six Nations.”

But the England camp will be sweating on how Hartley comes through his treatment. If attempts to get him fit to face Wales on 23 February on the third weekend of the championship prove unsuccessful, a decision will need to be taken on whether to have arthroscopic surgery immediately which would rule Hartley out for around six weeks or manage him through the rest of the season before experiencing surgery in the summer ahead of the World Cup.

A six-week lay-off from the end of February would rule Hartley out of the rest of the Six Nations and also the start of April, which would include the East Midlands Premiership derby with Leicester Tigers as well as a potential European Challenge Cup quarter-final, with Saints currently in the mix to qualify for the last eight ahead of this weekend’s group stage finale.

The basic white and red design has remained the same as that of the 2015 World Cup. The jersey maker, Canterbury of New Zealand Japan Inc., has prepared three different types of jerseys that will support the player-based performance of their positions.

There is one for the first row, one for the second and last row and the other for the back row. The sportswear company previously provided two different types to the team (for the front and back).

Front row, second row, and rear row give players who rely on durability an appropriate sense of fit, as they have to compete with their opponents in scrums during games. The backs will wear a lighter jersey and silhouette more difficult to grasp for the defenders.

“First of all, it is light to put it on, which gives you a proper meaning, but it does not interfere with your movements,” said fast winger Kenki Fukuoka at a press conference in Tokyo.

“I need to take full advantage of my speed, and it’s extremely important that I get caught (by a defender) or not. “I’d like to play a game wearing this as soon as possible.”

According to Canterbury, the resistance of the jersey has been improved by 9% for the front jerseys and 8% for the backs compared to the uniform used in 2015.

Similarly, the last jersey is 12% lighter for the attackers, while the jersey of the back is 7%. lighter. The jersey is also attached with slip resistance on the chest to allow players to hold the ball and avoid blows.

“I thought it was a little too tight when I first put it on,” longtime national team hooker Shota Horie said of the new uniform. “But the chest area gives you a moderate amount of looseness.”

Canterbury said the concept of the new jersey was “Kabuto” – a samurai warrior helmet. The red bands were designed with the kabuto coat of arms as the subject.

The alternative jersey of Japan is blue. The Brave Blossoms, who have recorded the most wins (three) at the 2015 World Cup in England, have run a series of training camps in Miyazaki since the end of last month.

The jersey will make its official debut as Japan face Fiji at the Pacific Nations Cup at the Kamaishi Recovery Memorial Stadium in Iwate Prefecture on July 27th.
