Paris 2024: Vitidsarn turns from genius to Olympic Badminton medal

He reached the peak clash at the world tour finals in 2021. Before winning the German open super 300 last year. But his big twinkling came when he held the silver medal at the world championships in Tokyo in August. I am happy with my routine but with every competition, I have to keep learning. I make easy errors occasionally. But there is no burden, Vitidsarn said after knocking out Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Long Angus by 21-13 21-13.

Today was the first day, I wanted to try out the environments. I think I had decent control. I was feeling a bit drained sometimes but it’s okay. Not so long ago, Vitidsarn was drifting through countries like Nepal, Bangladesh and India in the early days of 2018. Competing in lower-ranked global series and challenges. It is a step up from the inferior days. It was an international challenge then, now it’s Super 500 and 750s.

I am playing a lot of the best Olympic badminton players

I am playing with a lot of top Olympic badminton performers. We still learning how to play in regular competitions and control things. You need to train hard, then you will be able to control everything on the court, he said. Vitidsarn is part of the junior group of 2018, including India’s Lakshya Sen (12) and Japan’s Kodai Naraoka (6). Both of whom are now graded in the top 15.

He had sealed his initial world tour title by beating Sen at the German Open final last year. Kodai (Naraoka) and Lakshya (Sen) are very decent. But I don’t take much burden. I think about my routine and how to progress myself. They both are faster and improved than me, the Thai Olympic Badminton player said. While you point out his silver memento in last year’s world contests, he smiled and said, I have been lucky.

With an all-around game. Vitidsarn has developed as the biggest star from Thailand in men’s singles since five-time Olympic Games Boonsak Ponsana. Vitidsarn could have become another singles player from Thailand to win a world championship gold. After Ratchanok Inthanon had he gone the space in Tokyo last year. It was Viktor Axelsen, who denied him the magnificence. The world no. 1 Dane has attested to be a throne in his flesh, beating him in three finals.

So is Axelsen going to win gold at Summer Games 2024

So is Axelsen supreme? Well, it’s very hard for me and other players. But I have to try and it is okay if I lose, I want to learn, Vitidsarn said. Vitidsarn had taken up badminton after being regularly down with reactions as a child. I had an allergy when I was young. When it’s cold occasionally I still have an allergy but overall, now I am fine, he says. His father is a badminton coach and he determined that he picked up the racquet sport.

He has not observed back since then as his health is better and he also got success. His young sister Sarunrak Vitidsarn, all 15, has previously set the court on fire. Having won the U-17 Asia junior contests gold by beating India’s Unnati Hooda in Thailand. Sarunrak also beat Hooda in the finals of the event 2022 in Pune. I sometimes clarify a few things. I tell her not to take any burden, Vitidsarn said.

Birmingham 2022 commonwealth games gold medallist Ng Tze Yong has been left out of Malaysia’s squad for next month’s Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship (BAMTC). Held in Dubai to focus on qualifying for the Paris 2024. Ng won silver in the men’s singles competition and helped Malaysia to win mixed team gold. At last year’s games in the English city.

However, he was shocked omission from the Badminton Association of Malaysia’s team for the BAMTC. Due to be held from February 14 to 19 in the Emirati city. World number two Lee Zii Jia was probable to be joined by Ng in range for the men’s singles contest. But Leong Jun Hao has been elected instead. BAM singles training director Wong Choong Hann said. That the choice was taken to allow Ng to emphasise training for Olympic 2024 qualification. With the window due to open on May 1.

This is significant to ensure he remains on the right path according to what we have planned earlier. Wong said, as described by a Malaysian newspaper. Once the Olympic Games qualifiers begin, there will not be much time for him to attention to training. We feel that this is a significant phase which will help him attain the goal of qualifying for Paris next year. We believe this early training can help Tze Yong progress.

Badminton is a racket sport whose exact roots are still a tantalising mystery. It evolved from the older game of Battledor and Shuttlecock, which was a popular pastime in Europe. Particularly among the wealthy classes. However, it is not known precisely when Battledore and Shuttlecock altered into the modest sport of badminton. One theory is that badminton was first played at the stately home of the Duke of Beaufort in Gloucestershire.

Sometime in the early 1860s and thus was called after his estate, which was called Badminton House. The game moved to India where it became a popular sport in the army cantonments. Progressively it spread in the British colonies and then to Europe and East Asia. Badminton today is a global game with widespread appeal for people of all ages and abilities.

Ireland beats New Zealand in the Second Test

If anything sums up where this Ireland beats New Zealand. As someone that had practiced, and bounded back from, the 3-0 Test Series damage to New Zealand Rugby World Cup team in 2012. Peter O’Mahony had more than his fair share of scar tissue. Still, he was expectant of different scenes when he inwards back in the Ireland dressing room. There is a lovely bookend by Paul O’Connell in Tackling the All Blacks written.

The past Ireland captain speaks of the ropes and rankings that have been laid down at the rougher gives of Mt. Everest, put there by those that have now made the climb. For people that are uphill Everest, O’Connell explains. There is a path for the others to trail. It is a whole lot easier for them than it was for the guys that did it 1st. That’s the test. There aren’t that many undiscovered terrains for the Irish RWC team, and charming New Zealand is rather we hadn’t done earlier.

It was a great chance for the boys to lay down a path, in the rapport of the pursuit of the past. O’Connell, who is now an onward coach with Ireland, missed out on that 2012 trip to New Zealand after option up an injury. Still, the Munster fable had nine cracks 7 in New Zealand, with 3 as a British & Irish Lion to take down the All Blacks.

Great players retired without beating the Kiwis

There were many hurt feelings and regrets associated with these games. O’Connell was incredible on the 2006 tour and in the narrow 2013 defeat in Dublin, but no shame. Great players such as Willie John McBride, Mike Gibson, Fergus Slattery, Keith Wood, Brian O’Driscoll and Ronan O’Gara have all retired without beating the Kiwis in that green jersey. Peter O’Mahony started 5-0 with Ireland and the Lions against the New Zealand RWC team. And missed out on a famous 2016 victory over them.

His 1st win came in 2018 with his best performance at Lansdowne Road. Three years later and after one crushing disappointment at the Rugby World Cup, he repeated the dose in the same place. O’Mahony travelled to New Zealand last summer as part of an Irish team looking to beat AB at their home ground. Ireland lost the first Test at Eden Park but changed the whole tour seven days later with a memorable victory in Dunedin.

O’Mahony, who was superb in this win, has a standout moment in the documentary. Discussing the strange reaction in the dressing room after the Ireland RWC team triumph. That tied the series at 1-1 with a game that needed to be played. Peter O’Mahony on the reaction in the dressing room. In the second Test in Dunedin. Ireland went 10–0 ahead but failed to build on that excellent start after Angus Taavao received a red card from the hosts. And two other yellow cards were also shown.

Andy Farrell’s side only took a 10-7 lead at half-time

Andy Farrell’s side only took a 10-7 lead at half-time. But Andrew Porter’s second try of the night and Johnny Sexton’s 2 penalties saw them survive a late barrage to win their 1st-ever Test. against the All Blacks in New Zealand Rugby World Cup team. Peter O’Mahony was one of four Irish players who received a 9/10 on that historic evening. Munster’s back row reflected on the post-match fight scenes with the All Blacks. He commented. We beat the All Blacks for the first time on their territory.

We entered the dressing room. I thought I’d walk into a room with beers flying all over the place and guys singing roars. We walked in and it was a little soothing. A bit quiet. I thought it was strange. It was a big tick. Documentary footage corroborates these comments by O’Mahony. There is more weariness in the scenes and clear, satisfying relief. The RWC players pat each other on the leg, remove the harness and sit down for a beer.

You’ve earned the right, Andy Farrell tells them, to be the first Irish team to win in New Zealand Rugby World Cup. So be incredibly proud of yourself. Johnny Sexton, Ireland’s captain, reveals that he declared to his wife Laura before heading to New Zealand that he would win the only victory in the Test. After this Test was won and the deciding match was set for Wellington, Sexton moved the goalposts. He wanted this series to win. So did O’Mahony and everyone else in that Irish traveling company.

Ireland beat the All Blacks

The following weekend, history overlapped history as Ireland beat the All Blacks 32–22 to seal a Test series triumph. That will be remembered for a long time to come. The documentary ends with Paul O’Connell, who spent 5 seasons at the end of his playing career. Dovetailing with Peter O’Mahony, referring to the Mount Everest analogy and how the path is now paved for would-be Irish RWC players.

O’Mahony’s words as he observed back on that series’ success also reverberate. Look, there was a lot of feeling at the end. You gained the Test series against New Zealand Rugby World Cup team for the 1st time in history as a professional team. This has never been done before. It was a moment of pride for me and the whole group.

Massive days for incredible Irish sportsmen

Kathy McCabe is the most obvious star to look forward to in RWC 2023. And no less exciting for that. As captain of the country’s women’s team. He would become the most recognizable face associated with Ireland’s journey through uncharted lands. Vera Pau is the undisputed leader of the Irish adventure, but McCabe is at his heart. Along with the world-class talents of Denise O’Sullivan, he is one of only two available to the Pau.

Tactical and positional requirements

She is a richly gifted but ferocious worker. She is a playmaker, but at the same time obedient, fulfilling the tactical and positional requirements. Indicated by Pau. McCabe is an inspiration and I look forward to seeing her face between today and midsummer. There will be no more anticipated women’s sporting event in Rugby World Cup 2023. But it’s a long year and there will be plenty of room for other stories and personalities to emerge.

Due to the schedule disrupted by Covid-19 and the ensuing chaos caused by long-standing diary plans. The World Championships in Athletics will be held next August for the 2nd time in 12 months before the RWC. They will be held in Budapest, and two names will be on the lips of the Irish at once. Rasidat Adeleke and Ciara Magellan. They were exciting frontrunners in an exhilarating 2022 as they fought for the athlete’s cause at opposite ends of the career spectrum.

A sense of untapped potential remains in Adeleke. No one seems to be sure how good she can be, but most are sure that she is a huge talent. The kind this country has never produced in the sprint, and a general level that rarely shows up earlier in the Rugby World Cup. It took Magian up to 30 years to constantly justify such claims of his talent. What she has done this year has sparked dark and ugly rumors, all without even hinting at the facts.

Attention to the developments

A change of coach and Magellan’s rare advantage in consistent fitness helped her thrive over the summer at the Commonwealth Games. European Championships and RWC also. Pay attention to the developments around the women’s AFL. In just over a decade. It has grown from an 8-team competition to an 18-club competition.

The commitment of the men’s game to providing women’s teams has evolved. And while growth remains modest in places, the game is improving, attracting more fans. And where they go, sponsors, money and therefore big opportunities follow them. And that means more demand on those Irish Rugby World Cup players who come to play.

Tipperary’s Orla O’Dwyer remains a stellar name, but this year she and her Brisbane team suffered a massive final defeat to a Melbourne team. That included Armagh’s Blaytin Makin and Dublin’s Sinead Goldrick. However, it is most important to note that the number of Irish RWC players joining the AFLW has not decreased despite the increase in requirements. Of course, the longer the season, the better the packages to attract players.

This, however, will certainly have implications for their inter-district plans here. 5 days after helping Meath retain the Irish title last August. Vikki Wall made her rookie season in the Australia Rugby World Cup team with North Melbourne. However, no sane person can doubt such a hectic schedule because it is clear that this is a brilliant opportunity for talented Irish players. However, expect more demands from Australian clubs.

Pre-season will continue and the Irish RWC players

Wall has confirmed she will be with Meath until next August. But soon AFLW clubs will want players for longer as the game improves and competition intensifies. The pre-season will continue and the Irish RWC players will have to make some difficult results. This could become even more difficult if women’s football is spurred on by inevitable integration into the wider GAA. It’s one of those clerical stories that make your eyes glaze over like a doughnut tray, but the implications are significant.

They overcame Scotland in the knockout round’s sector finals before falling to defending champions South Africa in the semifinals. They faced France again in the bronze medal game, which they won a second time to acquire 1/3 of the field. In 2015, their second-satisfactory outcome moved up to fourth place. In 1999 and 2011, they went over the level of the pool as well.

They overcame Ireland in the quarter’s very last play-offs in 1999, however they lost to France in the regional finals. In the quarterfinals of the 2011 tournament, they lost to the home team, New Zealand. Argentina is still in charge of planning the World Cup. Of all the national squads from the Americas competing in the tournament, the Argentina team has had the greatest success.

Los Pumas Debut their training

Los Pumas begin their very previous training for the 2007 World Cup with a two-check series in contrast to itinerant Ireland. Who moved into groups on the way to France. In the main check on 26 May at Santa Fe, they keep scoring a 22–20 victory on a closing-minute drop intent by Felipe Contepomi. Both squads were deeply professional, exactly the Irish, with stars complete of Brian O’Driscoll, Ronan O’Gara, Paul O’Connell, and Gordon D’Arcy absent from the touring squad.

The Pumas had been themselves missing many stars who were playing that visit within the final round of the 2006–07 Topmost 14 series in France. The 2nd match contrary to Ireland was a 16-0 Pumas victory at Velez Sarsfield on 2nd June. On 9th June, Los Pumas finished a clean sweep of their mid-year match with a 24–6 win over Italy in Mendoza. In their final warmup game, they thrash their neighbors Chile 70-14 at the CASI in Buenos Aires on August 4. And lose to Wales 27-20 at the Millennium Stadium on August 18.

In the iconic “pool of death” of the World Cup, Los Pumas were put. Along with Ireland and the tournament organizers France. The IRB ranked two other teams among the top six. Additionally, they faced up contrary to the French in the World Cup opener at Stade de France. Making it the third straight tournament in which they faced off against the organizer country. The Pumas carried a 17-9 advantage into the half and held on for a shocking 17-12 victory. It was easily one of their best performances. At the Stade de Gerland in Lyon on September 11, the Pumas eventually defeated Georgia 33-3.

Argentina Defeated Namibia

Then, in Marseille, Argentina defeated Namibia by the biggest margin of victory in Argentine World Cup history 63-3. They continued on to beat Ireland 30–15, ensuring their triumph and the institution’s championship. Then, in the final game at the Stade de France, they overcame Scotland 19–13. With the help of the Springboks in the semi-final at Stade de France, the Pumas’ unlikely quest for the Webb Ellis trophy ended in a heavy 37–13 loss.

But the Pumas recovered quickly to defeat France 34-10 in the third/fourth region playoff. By defeating them for the second time in the 2007 Rugby World Cup. The Pumas’ third-place finish in the 2007 World Cup was Argentina’s best-ever result in a Rugby World Cup. On great terms with or better than those of the strong performances of IRB founder nations Wales (third in the 1987 Rugby World Cup), Scotland (fourth in the 1991 Rugby World Cup), and Ireland (which has never qualified for the Rugby World Cup semi-finals).

Argentina Title and Signs

Argentina alternated blue and white jerseys all over its first worldwide competitions in 1910. It donned the striped uniform for the first time in its records thanks to the widespread demand for it.

Abelardo Gutiérrez, who had suggested wearing a white and blue crew jersey 14 years earlier, advised a badge with the parent of a lion in September 1941. The crest’s hue changes to blue due to Buenos Aires Cricket Club. It featured the first rugby match played in Argentina. They claimed that the jaguar was picked due to his “agility and courage.”The jaguar, they claimed, was picked for his “agility and courage.” Later, it was changed with the help of a local Argentine species.

Carl Kohler made an error that led to the Puma’s triumph. He was a journalist for the South African daily Die Transvaler at the time. Kohler even followed the squad on their first-ever international trip to Southern Africa (Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe, and South Africa) in 1965.

He made an effort to come up with a unique title for the group that was similar to current international crew title choices like All Blacks, Springboks, and Wallabies. He asked for advice from Isak van Heerden. The SARB had hired the Natal Rugby team’s then-trainer to help with the tour.

On the UAR crest, they discovered a picture of a shaped lion with spots. As he was under pressure to publish his column, Kohler knew that the Americas were home to both jaguars and pumas. But he made a guess and referred to them as pumas rather than the actual jaguar. They identified the problem. Even if the UAR crest still features a jaguar, the Argentines themselves accepted the change.

Squad Uniform

Los Pumas play in a shirt with the United States of America’s flag and carry colorings of light blue and white, white shorts, and socks in mild blue and white. In 2011, the UAR signed an address for Nike which has become the one-of-a-kind uniform provider for all its countrywide senior and youngster squads, including Pampas XV. Los Pumas, though, might wear its traditional uniform, according to a report. Once they compete in the 2012 Rugby Championship. The first uniform developed by the American agency left the typical horizontal-striped jersey at the back and proposed a single light blue with white shoulders jersey.

Qatar World Cup a step on the road for Germany

While Hansi Flick has worked behind the scenes before, his first Germany Football World Cup as head coach will show how far-off he’s taken this German team. But the eventual goal may well be in the future.

When Hansi Flick takes charge of the German national team on August 1, 2021 . He present at birth a side which had just been knocked out of the European Championships at the quarterfinal stage by England.

Hansi Flick gave Jamal Musiala his chance with Bayern Munich and will now count on him with Germany Football World Cup

His predecessor Joachim Low had stepped down, as planned, after 15 years at the wheel.

Flick was tasked by the German Football relationship (DFB) with a reconstruct which was not only essential but long-overdue. Since their achievement in Brazil in 2014 and a decent enough run to the semifinals of Euro 2016 in France, Germany had ceased to be a genuine force on the world stage.

The historic disaster of Russia 2018, when Germany as reigning world champions finished bottom of their group behind South Korea, Mexico and Sweden, and Low’s failure to make any real improvement between then and Euro 2020, made it clear that something had to change.

“Our aim is to return to the summit of the game,” announced brush at his official promotion last summer. It won’t be easy but we have enormous superiority and will do all we can to get back to the pinnacle.

As for what that would engage: “We need the very best players to play for the national team, but we also want to give youth a chance

Blend of youth and experience

On Thursday, the 57-year-old announce his squad for his first major tournament as head coach. Flick’s selection contained a few surprise but he remained true to his word. In addition to recognized national players for instance Thomas Müller, Antonio Rüdiger and Joshua Kimmich, Flick has handed youngsters like Southampton’s Armel Bella Kotchap and Borussia Dortmund’s Youssoufa Moukoko a chance. “Youssoufa is developing well.

But how has Flick changed the national team in his 16 months in charge? Broadly careful a good conversationalist, he has manage to win over the often-critical German fans quickly

A new epoch began in September [last year] with the change of coach. We have not had that in Germany Football World Cup as 2006. So that is something important, Thomas Muller said about the job Flick and his coaching team have done.

The premature results of his sovereignty may well have contribute to that feel good factor. Twelve goals for and nothing against in the first three games was a flying start. Five more victories followed, meaning Flicrecord for longest winning line after taking charge of Germany. But it’s pale to say Liechtenstein, Armenia, North Macedonia or even Iceland are not the stiff of opposition.

Germany racked up the goals early in Flick’s reign

FIFA World Cup 2022 fans can buy Germany vs Japan Tickets from our website.

When they stepped up a notch against the Netherlands, England and Italy, results were not quite as persuasive, with a cord of 1-1 draws followed by a 5-2 win over Italy and 1-0 loss to Hungary. pundit were starting to question performance but Flick stayed firm.

We must not lose self-assurance in the team and we’re not doing that either. I have complete self-assurance, said the 57 year old before the 3-3 draw in England, which was Germany’s last match before heading to the middle east.

Preparations not ideal

The tight agenda caused by the World Cup being played in Qatar.Iinjuries to key men has given Flick less time to get ready than he would’ve liked. Some of the players also have other belongings on their minds, from the association and from the Champions union they are also under a lot of pressure, he said.

The outcome of this is clear. Germany lack constancy. Permanence in defense and extravagance in attack are still the biggest problems. Only Antonio Rüdiger from Real Madrid, Manchester City’s Ilkay Gündogan and Bayern’s Joshua Kimmich, Müller, Leon Goretzka and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer are constants in Flick’s team.

As has been the case for some time, Germany also lack an knowledgeable and prolific striker. After Timo Werner & Lukas Nmecha were lined out by injury,  Müller, Bremen’s Niclas Füllkrug or Mario Götze, the scorer of the winner in the 2014 World Cup final who has been recalled to the squad, are the knowledgeable options. Moukoko, only (17), might even be the surprise starter up top.

In midfield, Flick is blemished for choice, but will be able to rely on the Bayern core of Goretzka.

Kimmich, Serge Gnabry and Jamal Musiala. There is no shortage of talented persons in the German set up, but this is not a well-grooved team.

Looking to Euro 2024

But it is likely that all of Flick’s aims won’t be found in Qatar in any case.

Though winning is, of course, important, the development of his team is still the main concern, and the long-term goal is the Euros on home soil in 2024. It possible a good time to turn out to be European champions again (28) years following my winning goal in 1996, said Germany’s team manager Oliver Bierhoff in an interview with Spox.

In Qatar, Germany’s task is clear: not to make self-conscious themselves and, with a bit of luck, make it to the quarter or semifinals.

World champions France, Brazil and England are too strong to be expecting much more. But in arrange to vie for the trophy in two years, young players like Musiala, Nico Schlotterbeck , Moukoko or Bella Kotchap can “warm up” in the Qatar sun.

Ponting supports the selection of Kohli for the Indian T20 World Cup team

Ricky Ponting, a former captain of Australia, used the most recent episode of The ICC Review to analyze Virat Kohli’s recent performance, forecast what the star batter would face in the future, and express his opinion on how India’s batting lineup should look at the next ICC T20 World Cup.

Ricky Ponting, a former captain of Australia
Ricky Ponting, a former captain of Australia

Ponting thinks Kohli, 33, is worth sticking with at the international level even though he battled for runs during this year’s IPL and hasn’t scored a century for his nation in any format in nearly three years.

In an interview with Sanjana Ganesan for The ICC Review, Ponting stated that India would benefit more from keeping Kohli than they would if they decided to leave the right-hander out of their team for the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia later this year.

Kohli and the fear factor

Ponting, who led Australia to two World Cup victories in 2003 and 2007, claimed that Kohli still had the potential to make a significant contribution.

“I think if I was an opposition captain or an opposition player, I will fear playing an Indian team that has Virat Kohli in it, more than I would not have him in it,” Ponting noted.

“I know there have been some challenges for him, it’s been a difficult time.

“But every great player that I have seen in this game has been through it at some stage, whether that’s a batsman or a bowler, they have all been through it.

“And somehow, the best (players) find a way to rebound and respond, and it’s only a matter of time before Virat does that.”

Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli

Now or never for the Indian great

If India does decide to leave Kohli out of the T20 World Cup in Australia, according to Ponting, there may be no turning back.

“If you leave Virat out of the eve of the World Cup, and someone comes in and has a reasonable tournament, it will be hard for Virat to get back in it,” Ponting said.

“If I was India, I will keep pushing with him, because I know the upside. If they get him back confident and playing as well as he can, that upside is better than most. So I think if I was a captain or a coach around the Indian setup, I will be making life as easy as possible for him to feel as comfortable as possible, and just wait for him to flick the switch and start scoring runs again.”

The runs will eventually come for Kohli

With the hope that Kohli reaches his peak during the knockout rounds of the T20 World Cup, Ponting advised selectors to find a space for the champion batter in India’s top order and commit to keeping him there the entire tournament.

“Early in the tournament, for a first-round game, (it’s important too) get him in nice and early, among the runs, and then hopefully by the end of the tournament you’ll have Virat Kohli back at his best,” Ponting said.

“That’s the way I would look at it. I wouldn’t think about holding him back at the start of the tournament, with the thought that you might be able to bring him back towards the back end and have him peak. Tournament play isn’t like that.

“You need to work your way into the tournament, get some runs under your belt, get some confidence, and then be playing your best cricket at the back end.”

Give Virat the confidence to do what he does best

Ponting thinks that Kohli’s best national performances have occurred when he has been at ease both on and off the field. The former captain of Australia believes that India’s coaching staff has to work to restore Kohli’s confidence as quickly as feasible.

“You still got to find the best balance for the team. You can’t just make the team all about one person,” Ponting noted.

“They probably should be trying to find new ways to get him back into the form and help him out. That (moving him up the order) quite often comes at the expense of someone else as well, you are moving someone else around trying to find a spot for Virat. He has opened the batting; he’s batted at No.3 in the IPL in the last couple of years and done the same for India.

Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli

“Moving him around will make him feel that people are worried about him, and he will be more unsettled.

“I will be going the other way. I’ll be telling him, ‘This is your spot, this is where you’re batting, it’s not going to change. Keep believing in yourself, keep putting in the hard work, keep believing in what made you the best player in the world for several years – get back to those thoughts and the runs will come.”

What to do with the rest of India’s star-studded batting line-up?

The favorites to start the batting for India at the T20 World Cup are Captain Rohit Sharma and the gifted right-hander KL Rahul, but there aren’t many other openings left should Kohli be selected to accompany them in the top-order.

Ponting has worked closely with Rishabh Pant at Delhi Capitals and is well aware of his strengths, while the former Australia captain thinks veteran all-rounder Dinesh Karthik must also fill a spot in India’s middle-order.

Rishabh Pant and ricky ponting
Rishabh Pant and ricky ponting

“We have seen what Rishabh is capable of in 50-over cricket and I know absolutely what he is capable of in the T20 game,” Ponting said.

“Dinesh Karthik has had his best IPL ever just very recently … and I would be trying to find every way to have both of those guys in my team.

“Rishabh to bat, in that three-four-five range, and have Dinesh and maybe Hardik Pandya … if you have those guys finishing for you, well that batting line-up looks very, very dangerous.

“That means someone like (Ishan) Kishan or Surya (Suryakumar Yadav) or (Shreyas) Iyer, someone like that, might miss out and I don’t think Surya will miss out given his current form.

“But when you got so much talent picking an Indian team is always going to be difficult and Pant and Karthik would be the two I would pick ahead of Kishan right now.”

Nicolas Pooran confirmed the West Indies submission Bajan R&B impression Rihanna, plenty to merriment in reply contributed expectation of a prominent West Indies win by also getting his maiden century.

But having helped his side meeting from 199/6 in an 83 run stand with Allen, his 118 couldn’t see the West Indies over the line as they finished on 315/9.

Sri Lanka started like a team that had followed the lessons of Friday’s defeat against South Africa on the same pitch, with Kusal Perera attacking the Windies bowlers with a series of shots over the battlefield.

The West Indies broke when Dimuth Karunaratne feathered Jason Holder, but that only signaled Fernando’s arrival. His task, especially after Perera 64 was run out after trying a second place badly judged was to rebuild.

He acted with a typical style, as demonstrated by his first boundary, but he also showed a brilliant fight. The result was a magnificent 104, 103 balls, with nine fours and two to six off Sheldon Cottrell, who shot high over the midwicket, which pushed Sri Lanka to an impressive total.

The hopes of the Windies were directly dented by Lasith Malinga, an ageless man, who caught Sunil Ambris behind and hurled Shai Hope inside edge bowled.

Chris Gayle briefly tweaked with two highs in his 35 before Shimron Hetmyer was run out to leave the score at 84/4.

Pooran showed a fine comeback with a knock play that defied his years. But with Jason Holder hitting Jeffrey Vandersay 26 at the halfway mark and Carlos Brathwaite run out at the non-striker’s end after Isuru Udana affected his partner’s effort, was struggling for support.

Allen 51 was about to deliver where his teammates failed to show exceptional power to hit half a century in 30 balls but he was run out after a dreadful confusion with Pooran.

Pooran then brought up his hundred from 92 balls but it showed in hopeless as Angelo Mathews bowling his first ODI delivery since December 2017 brought a mark after to put paid to Windies’ hopes.

“It’s quite amazing,” former Pakistan skipper Rameez Raja tells ICC. “The fans had almost disowned the team after the India loss, but have rallied behind them. They can sense this rhythm and urgency from the last couple of matches.

“You get the best from Pakistan when their backs are against the wall, and I hope the momentum carries on. It’s like playing at home; it felt great in Birmingham and has been the same in Leeds.”

Shaheen Afridi, introduced after Afghanistan betrayed two more Imad Wasim, illustrated the growing frustration in Pakistan by throwing the stumps after Gulbadin Naib joined him. Annoyed as he was when the two rollovers were sandwiched by borders, he was really furious at the next ball, his crazy celebrations interrupted by the decision of referee Nigel Llong not to raise his finger.

The skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed showed his calm and led to a typical revival of Pakistan after the hammer blow in the West Indies to launch their campaign. He took his time and, five seconds from the end, proposed a review.

The process was calm until, of course, Snicko shows the weakest peak mark. The crowd broke once more, and Naib, after becoming enticed to try a long road. Quickly followed by Hashmatullah Shahidi, who the next ball tried to get a kick in the leg and saw his first spoon Imad in the middle of the game.

Shaheen’s hat-trick ball was a wet squib too far down the leg, but the same couldn’t be said of a match that captured the imagination like few ever have.

Afghanistan was every bit a match for their illustrious opponents throughout scratching and clawing to their 227/9 before unleashing a battery of spinners.

When Mohammad Nabi followed Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s to eliminating Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam. Afghan spinners Rashid Khan, Nabi, Rahman, and Samiullah Shinwari  continued to run in circles and the Pakistan affair seemed hopeless when it went to 156/6 with the required rate of progression.

But the kings of lost causes assembled once more Imad Wasim striking 49 not out and Wahab Riaz bringing a role of 15 to get Pakistan victory by three wickets.
